Emraan Hashmi starrer Ground Zero is a real story based on the life of decorated BSF officer Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey, who carried out an operation against terrorist Rana Tahir Nadeem, a.k.a Ghazi Baba, mastermind of the 2001 Parliament attacks.
Ground Zero is probably the first film that is purely based on the operations of the BSF. The film is mainly shot in Srinagar and covers every aspect of terrorism and insurgency that affects the Kashmir valley. The cast includes Emraan Hasmi who plays the main lead role of BSF officer NND, Sai Tamhankar who plays Jaya Dube (wife of NND) and IB officer AADILA is played by Zoya Hussain.
Hussain, a Kashmiri Youth who goes on to become a BSF informer, is portrayed by Mir Mohammed Mehroos.
The Plot: Valley witnesses a surge in killings of BSF officers by Kashmiri Youths, who have now switched to pistols instead of stone pelting. Meanwhile, the mastermind Ghazi Baba meticulously plans and carries out attacks on the Parliament and Akshardham, killing many innocent people. All efforts to nab the conspirators go in vain as they manage to escape every time until they try to attack the PM during his Srinagar visit. What follows next is planning to locate Ghazi’s Ground Zero and eliminate him.
BSF Officer Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey

Kirti Chakra awardee BSF officer Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey led the operation to eliminate the 2001 parliament attack master mind Ghazi Baba. During the operation, he came under heavy AK-47 firing and was hit by multiple rounds. But as it is said, fortune always favours the brave, and this time NND was determined to kill, come what may. Some bullets that were fired at him were deflected by his medals, and one still remains inside him as a lasting reminder of his brave actions.
EssentialGyaan Verdict: The storyline is great, but Emraan Hashmi lacks the punch to deliver the aura or vibe of a military officer in combat. As the film is based on a real story, it keeps you excited, but that energy is missing, which you feel while watching the likes of Border, LOC Kargil or Lakshya. Overall, it’s a one-time watch with your family.
