The world knows about the horrific Jallianwala Bagh massacre carried out by General Dyer (Reginald Edward Harry Dyer) but very few knew the untold story, the courtroom drama, contribution of Sir C. Sankaran Nair in bringing this horrific massacre to world’s notice and delivering justice to innocent people who were killed on that fateful day of April 13 1919, Amritsar, India.
Starring Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan & Ananya Pandey in the lead roles, Kesari 2 is an honest tribute to the life story of Sir Nair and the innocent lives that were lost in the massacre. The film draws your attention right from the first frame with top-notch cinematography combined with an energetic background score that keeps the audience glued. Detailing in a movie is great with the placement of twists so well planned that you can’t afford to miss a scene. The only missing point some might feel is that the Malayali aura of the lead character, Sir Nair, portrayed by Akshay Kumar, is missing. Certain fictional stories of freedom fighters and common people were added for plot twists to connect the storyline with the courtroom drama.
"An untold story that waited far too long"The Plot: Not giving in too many spoilers, but the plot is all about making the British Crown accept that General Dyer committed genocide on April 13, 1919, in Amritsar. The dreaded general tries to use all his powers to prove he did what he did because the crowd defied a curfew and had gathered in large numbers with deadly weapons to attack British establishments. This is where Sir Chettur Sankaran Nair enters the scene along with Dilreet Gill, portrayed by Ananya Pandey, who proves to the world that it was a genocide committed by the British Empire, where more than 10,000 innocent lives were lost just out of hatred of the general towards Indians.
Essential Gyaan Review: The movie is a must-watch. Akshay Kumar has probably delivered one of the best performances of his career, more realistic and intense compared to his last courtroom movie, Jolly LLB 2. Not at all surprised with the wicked performance of R Madhavan, who, it seems, has not yet recovered from the Shaitaan role and does 101% justice to his character Adv. Neville McKinley. The surprise element in Kesari 2 has to be Ananya Pandey, who we believe has delivered the best performance of her life to date. The first instance when you see Ananya Pandey in the movie, it’s hard to believe it’s her; she portrays the character of Dilreet Gill profoundly well. Once in a blue moon movie, which you can watch multiple times.
